The Year 2016
We were quite happy with all improvements completed this year and how smoothly it went, that is until Hurricane Matthew damaged the island of Grand Bahama beyond recognition.
The Marina has been completed! All new planks have been installed and look great. Most important they are there to last.
For any guests with us in September and part October you may have experienced the major renovation and repair of the main pool area. We have jackhammered and replaced over 15,000 sqft worth of tiles and leveled the floors around the pool. The pool house has been removed for an unobstructed view of the marina when sitting in the restaurant. A water pool lounge area has been added so you can sun bathe in a foot of water. Currently we have renovated additional 3 bedrooms this year and realistically by 2018 all 3- bedrooms will be completed.
We are sad to report that during the first week of October, Grand Bahama Island was hit by hurricane Matthew, a category 4 storm on the Saffir-Simpson scale. The island was devastated and unfortunately, our main building which contains our One, Two and Penthouse apartments was severely damaged. Oceans Blue restaurant was also greatly damaged and lost its roof as well and Esthers Pool bar was so damaged it has to be completely removed. The townhouses had in comparison minimal damages but all roofs need to be repaired.
We are concentrating all of our efforts to ensure that the resort is fully operational by the Christmas holiday season so that you, our valued members, can enjoy your planned vacations with us. Despite the challenges that our staff personally endured due to the hurricane, we can assure you that they are all working diligently to achieve our goal of restoration.
We regret to inform you that due to these unforeseen and unfortunate circumstances, we have to add a hurricane assessment amount of $250.00 to your annual maintenance fees to rebuild the resort. This will be included on your regular invoice and is due at the same time. We thank you for your understanding at this difficult period and look forward to welcoming you at the Ocean Reef Resort & Yacht Club in the near future.
This is a very trying time for us seeing all the damage in the resort and on island. The Hurricane took out 1000 power poles and numerous roofs. The vessels still staying in the marina caused a lot of docks to be damaged and our vegetation needs a major uplift.

GOALS FOR 2017
The 3-Bdrm Townhouse 410 will start its renovation in the first week of January and apartment 402 should be starting two weeks later. They should be ready by mid March if all goes well. Unit 414 should be started in September unless 405 & 208 need to get done prior.
Maintenance will be our main focus for 2017. We need to add additional support to our balconies and walk ways in the main building. We wanted to get on the solar bandwagon and replace one complete townhouse with solar roof tiles. Patio doors and windows in the main building will be replaced with the hurricane impact doors progressively throughout 2017 & 2018.
We are doing a great job repairing the resort after the hurricane and will have all of our rooms up and ready in January. We will be 80% open up by mid November with a few changes but are very happy with what we have completed so far.
